History of the Company

The company’s beginnings date long back to the 19th century and the year 1844 in the Netherlands with a modest enterprise Algemene Friesche started by two civil servants. Nillmij was one of its subsidiary companies in the private life insurance field and had rapid growth till the end of the 19th century before the First World War brought down the economy and insurance business.

After a few years of uncertainty till 1945, economic conditions and business conditions started improving and Nillmij concentrated on the Netherlands. Nillmij had already moved its business in phases to the Netherlands from the Dutch East Indies. By 1968 Algemene Friesche had joined two other companies Groot Noordhollandsche and Olveh. The new company started taking hold of the Dutch market and almost 15 years later in 1983 Ennia and AGO joined forces to create the insurance giant of present day. Today they have businesses all over the world, and is a true global company.
