Fortis Critical Illness Cover

Fortis is a UK based insurance company which was formed in 2007 and is an off-shoot of Fortis Insurance International based in the Netherlands. It is known to sell only via intermediaries such as specialist insurance brokers and Independent Financial Advisors.

Fortis provides two types of individual critical illness insurance: life with critical illness also known as Your Life Plan and life with limited cover also known as their Real Life Cover plan.

It also has the Best Doctors services attached to these two plans. Presently the former includes about 40 definitions. Many other definitions have been altered or modified in the two plans as well.

The company is based in Hampshire and has a large presence in more than a 50 countries with around 50,000 employees and offers a wide variety of plans for most types of customer.

There are two main life insurance products to choose between from the company: Your Life Plan and Real Life Cover. The former aims to encompass a variety of protection including term assurance, critical illness insurance, family protection and income benefits. You are free to choose either one part of the main cover if it that suits your requirements better. You could leave the other aspects if you think they are out of your budget or you want to add them later. The company also offers an alternative of temporary disability under its package of critical illness. History of the company

Based in Hampshire, Fortis Insurance Limited is part of the larger Fortis group of companies, a leader in financial services in both Belgium and Luxembourg. The company has a presence in more than 50 countries with a workforce of more than 50,000 and a range of products including Fortis life insurance (also known as ‘Fortis life assurance’ and ‘Fortis term assurance’). At the beginning of October 2008, the company was nationalised but Fortis Life managing director Martin Werth confirmed the safety of the UK business. It shall rechristen itself to Aegas shortly, but as it is not sold directly this will not be a major concern.
